Following the announcement that caravan parks may open up for sales only, the Government has also updated its’ advice on taking day trips and second homes in England.

The FAQ’s state at 1.15 that ‘Day trips to outdoor open spaces are permitted as long as you can return in the same night’. 

As caravan parks are generally outdoor open spaces, this guidance could potentially suggest that holiday home owners may be able to visit their holiday parks for the day. 

It will be down to you as an individual park owner to decide how to interpret and apply this updated guidance. 

If you decide to allow holiday home owners to enter your park for the day, it is important to take steps to implement safety measures and manage the risk. 

We suggest the following measures could be taken:

Parks could arrange park owners visits in advance by email, or over the phone, and keep a record of their viewings. 

Start a clear and concise dialogue with your local community to maintain good relationships, and mitigate their concerns about people once again starting to slowly re-access parks. 

Support for our industry 

We are grateful to the Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport, Rt Hon Oliver Dowden CBE MP for his statement today that self-contained accommodation (as seen on caravan and lodge parks) poses a lower risk than other types of accommodation. 

This is further evidence that a carefully phased re-opening as advocated by the NH&HPA is the best course of action.
